Art Hurumanu!

Bonjour everyone! This is Elisha Mae and today I'll be telling you about our recent cool amazing Hurumanu which is Art. Miss Birtch, Whaea Rowena and Miss Keene have come together to teach us this awesome subject! In art Hurumanu we are doing some stop-motion showing some Manaakitanga. We were randomly grouped with a mixture of people both BH and TZ class to work on our stop-motion. One of the topics in Manaakitanga that you could do is Kindness. My group did Kindness and we were inspired by this short film video called Kindness ripple of how a man decided to help a poor family who doesn't have enough money to buy a cake for their grandfather.

In my groups' stop-motion we also kinda did the same thing but it's different the only similarities is that It also occurred in a store but our one happened in a doughnut shop and also the way there is a character who helped them.

Here's our successful stop-motion:

Thanks for reading this post and see yah to the other post!
Bye! Have a wonderful day!

Bold Blogger Of The Week

Bula! Last term, our Class Bloggers decided that we were going to have a "Bold Blogger Of The Week". This idea was inspired by Rimu Class who have a "Brilliant Blogger Of The Week".

All the Class Bloggers chose a couple of adjectives starting with the letter "B". I don't exactly remember what the words were but I can tell you after we each chose words we had a class debate and "Brainy" was a close competitor but "Bold" ended up winning.

Each Monday we will be choosing a Blogger from our class who has done an excellent blog post! We will add in a direct link to the blogpost so that even you can read their amazing work within a click of a link!
The bold of the week this week is...

Bench Ball and how it works

Bench Ball and how it works

Today In We're on each others team P.E Hurumanu we played a game call bench ball

You are probably thinking what is this game called bench ball
well, it is a simple step by step game.

Step one: In the beginning, you will need two groups of 4 plus bibs or you can be jerseys and no jerseys.

Step two: You must need two benches to play with (one that is suitable to stand on).

Step three: Learn the Rules

1. You can't step with the ball
2. Only one person on the bench
3. If you have the ball without stepping pass the ball to the person on the bench if successful the person who threw the ball has to go on the bench you can not change to another person
4. If the ball goes out its handover
5. If someone passes the ball successfully to their team member it will be handover
6. You can NOT slap or push the ball out of the other teammates' hands

Step Four: Playtime you know the rules now time for me to go

Remember that you are still on each others team.

How To Play Ki o Rahi?

How To Play Ki o Rahi?

Guten Tag! Have you guys heard about the game called Ki o Rahi?
Well if you have or not, I'm gonna teach you how to play that fabulous game.
First of all, this game is a Maori traditional game. We use some Maori vocabulary words to call those stuff because like I said it's a Maori game so we need to call it into its proper name.

What you'll need:

- 1 Ki (It's a ball that's called Ki)

- Lot's of Field marking cones

- 1 Tupu ( Centre Target bin)

- 7 Pou's (Poles or flags)

- 14 people to play (7 people each team)
Image result for 14 friends cartoon people
Rules:

There are two teams that are gonna be playing. Each team have a main Job to do. One team has to be either Kioma or Taniwha.

Kioma - What Kioma does is they collect points by touching the Ki (The ball) to the Pou's (Poles).  They can touch Pou's as many they want. They can redeem the points by touching the Pawero (The white part) of the field.

But at the same time, they have to avoid to get touch by the other teams. If the other team touch you, you can still carry on but when they touch you like 3 times with different people, It's a hand over that means the other teams get the Ki (The ball).

The Kioma has also at least 2 Kaitiaki players inside to protect the Tupu (The centre target bin) from the other teams of getting score by hitting the Tupu. If the 2 Kaitiaki want to get out of the Te Wairua (Which is the place where they are on before) well they can, They just have to go to Te Ara (The path where they can go in and out).

Taniwha - What Taniwha does is that they get points by hitting the Kito the Tupu, But they also need to look out from Kioma players because they might get touched and the same thing as Kioma when theTaniwha players get touched by the Kioma players 3 times in different people then they need to hand the ball.

But when they touch the player but the player already passed it to somebody in their team then that doesn't count. The Taniwha players can stand at Te Roto to hit the Ki to the Tupu. But they need to remember that the 2 Kaitiaki players can touch them if they are too close.

Te Ao - It's what you call it the place surrounds the 7 Pou's.

Here's what the field looks like:
The Ki o Rahi game has a unique circular field.

Bye and have a great day!

Bench Ball - New Hurumanu!

Hey guys, last Tuesday we started our new Hurumanu, P.E!  Most of our class was said about P.E but after the first game we all enjoyed it. The game was called "Bench Ball." And now I'm going to teach you.

How you play "Bench Ball" is you get into teams of 5 and separate into different courts. There should be 2 teams per court. You have 1 ball between both teams.

Your goal is to get your whole team on the beach by pasting it around to your players. It needs to reach the goalie. Here are some photos.

Time to be Physical!

This week we started our new Hurumanu called We're on each other's team. This is a PE based Hurumanu being taught by Mr Goodfellow and Miss Tozer.

The key things we are learning about during this Hurumanu are:
- How we can show commitment to the physical activity.
- The history of particular games.
- How we can communicate well when working in a team.

We played a really fun game called Bench Ball. The aim of this game was to pass the ball between your teammates without moving to try and get the ball to the person on your team that was standing on the bench. If they caught it when you join them on the bench. The winning team is the team who gets all their teammates on the bench.

Check out these awesome photos and videos from hurumanu...

Collaborating with 9Ay

Recently, 9Ay have been learning about sundials in maths with Mr Rees. 9Ay came to visit 7/8Tz to share some of their learning.

A sundial is a tool that uses the sun to help tell the time. It consists of two main components - the flat plate and the gnomon. When the sun shines onto a sundial the gnomon (the part that sticks up) casts a shadow. This shadow will fall somewhere on the flat plate and using the numbers on the flat plate, we can tell the time.

Check out these awesome sundials made by students in 9Ay:

We loved collaborating with 9Ay and look forward to sharing more learning with them.

Hurumanu

This term 7/8Tz and 7/8Bh have been working together for four periods a week for Hurumanu (modules). Our hurumanu was a combination of health and drama taught by Miss Tozer and Mrs Clarke, called 'Change and Challenge.'

Over the term, we have been learning about some of the changes and challenges we go through as we grow up. The four dimensions of Hauora, being people smart, showing our CARR values and looking after ourselves were some of the things that we talked about. Mrs Clarke taught us heaps of new and exciting things such as how to create a freeze frame to convey a message, captioning freeze frames to share an important message, puppet making, creating a chorus of movement and role-playing. At the end of our hurumanu, we had to bring all of our learning together to create a performance to be shared with the rest of the class.

Check out the photos below that were taken throughout our hurumanu.

Year 7 & 8 Surfing at Sumner Beach:
We had a great time at Sumner Beach learning how to surf, exploring the shoreline and playing beach games. Everyone had a fantastic day out!

Top Team
To help us get to know each other, we had Top Team come to Hornby High School. All of the Year 7 & 8 students were mixed up and put in different groups. We had to work together to complete challenges and for every challenge that we completed, we got points. There were some really fun activities such as a giant jigsaw, hoop toss, plank walking and the water challenge. Check out the awesome photos below.
